Spiceal Street, Birmingham
The innovative new addition to Birmingham City Centre creates a coveted tourist attraction for the UK’s second city.
Designed by architects Chapman Taylor, the development with its eye-catching undulating roof visually compliments the iconic Selfridges building close to it. The scheme which comprises of top restaurants is also situated next to one of the city’s historic landmarks, St Martin’s Church, giving visitors magnificently contrasting traditional and contemporary views.
The complex geometry design reflects modern architecture at its best. Wintech developed the working design using parametric design principles that now form the main stay of complex geometry engineering. The roof is composed of a series of flat beams laid across a set of firrings, designed by Wintech in varying sizes, creating the required wave-form surface solution which scales the length of the set of new restaurants.
Work started on Spiceal Street in 2010 and was recently completed allowing public use over Christmas.
