Quadrant:MK – Award Winning
Network Rail’s new facility, The Quadrant:MK, has been awarded 2013’s Best Corporate Workplace in the South West, Thames Valley and South Wales category by the British Council for Offices.
Described as a railway fit for the 21st century, the 400,000 sq ft complex is located in Elder Gate, Milton Keynes. The Quadrant:MK is made up of four five-storey buildings accommodating 3000 staff and new working practices for Network Rail for which Wintech provided full facade consultancy services.
GMW Architects worked to a brief of sustainability and challenged conventional thinking. The structure is set at an angle to the street; the optimised orientation was an adopted passive design technique to harness winds and the sun’s heat. The long Brise Soleil is constructed from white aluminium and reaches out into the street. Natural ventilation and rainwater recycling are also some of the environmental factors incorporated into the design and engineering of the building which achieved a BREEAM level of “Excellent”.
The building which was completed in June 2012 was provided with full facade consultancy services by Wintech.
