Wintech visit Olympia redevelopment with University of Malta Students

Wintech’s Operations Director Clyde Abela, along with façade engineers Dimitar Petrov and Jacob Parkinson, recently accompanied architecture and civil engineering students from the University of Malta on a tour of the Olympia Redevelopment project in London, currently undergoing a major transformation by main contractors Laing O’Rourke for Future Olympia.

The students were treated to a brief overview of the project followed by a visit to 5 of the 7 plots.  They were able to view the structure under construction on the G-Gate Theatre and the Central Building, as well as the first façade elements being delivered on the National Hotel and the Public Realm. The semi-completed façade on West Music Hall was also viewable, together with the retained Grade II listed façade on the Central Building.

The Olympia Exhibition Centre has been a London landmark since its opening in 1886, currently being developed into a world-leading arts, events, and entertainment centre with an increased focus on community and shared spaces. This will include a new public space realm, to bring new life into one of London’s most iconic heritage sites.

“We were delighted to take the students round a real-life construction site and furnish them with valuable experience. Being able to take students from my own alma mater was incredibly rewarding, and we hope to continue this collaboration as we continue to work with the next generation of façade engineers.” – Clyde Abela
