Wintech announces HQ operating as Net Zero on Earth Overshoot Day 2023

Today, Earth Overshoot Day, marks the point where we begin to overuse the Earth’s resources beyond its regenerative capacity for the rest of the year. This day serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of humanity’s ecological footprint, with the UN recently warning that “the era of global boiling has arrived”.

Against this backdrop, Wintech Group is proud to announce that its Head Office in Wolverhampton is operating as Net Zero. The transformation process to Net Zero underlines our commitment towards supporting the built environment and the UK government’s net zero ambitions.

Paul Savidge, MD, comments, “We recognise the severity of the climate crisis and the responsibility we bear as a consultancy group to serve as a catalyst for change. Our Wolverhampton Head Office operating as net zero demonstrates our dedication to supporting our clients and industry targets.”

Wintech has been diligently working to implement sustainability strategies across the organisation, including the complete phasing out of Scope 1 emissions and the ongoing mission to nullify Scope 2 emissions. The transformation of Quartz House, Wintech’s Head Quarters, into a Net Zero building involved a rigorous energy efficiency retrofit implementation following a detailed on-site audit.

The retrofit process at Quartz House involved precise measurements of façade components, thermal values, and an air infiltration test to enhance the building envelope’s tightness. Building system information, such as heat pump specifications, lighting and electrical equipment details, water heating, occupancy timing, and equipment schedules, were meticulously collected to inform the energy conservation strategies and combinations.

Through performance analysis, the most optimal energy conservation strategies were identified and compiled into a case, which was applied for on-site retrofitting. This approach, coupled with prioritising on-site energy production measures, resulted in the installation of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic Systems to generate energy on-site, further reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Paul Savidge further adds, “Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our own operations. We are eager to provide sustainability services to support others in their journey towards achieving Net Zero, and together, push ‘Earth Overshoot Day’ to the end of the year.”
