Beacon of science and innovative research, the Abernethy Building is part of the prestigious Queen Mary University of London Campus and unit of Blizard Institute. The new cladding refurbishment is meant to modernise and transform the academic environment and local communities in Whitechapel.
Distributed symmetrically as a sharp laser-cut patterned veil; the new façade of Abernethy comprises of 5mm flat perforated aluminium anodised sheets, with an applicable height of 4 metres. Manufactured by Bailey and installed by Crown Roofing, the golden panels provide a simply unique aspect to the building, inducing an interesting and distinguished look to the development.
Double glazed units with high performance coating replaced the existing glazing. By respraying the external pressed metal framing of the windows, curtain wall and brick wall, Abernethy inherited a polished presence post refurbishment.
Wintech were appointed by QMUL to deliver a wide scope of consultancy services including specification writing, strategic development, concept design, tender process, design audit and site monitoring.
