Designed to be one of the tallest building on the island of Abu Dhabi, this tower rises at an incredible 1,063 feet/324 m with all 72 storeys clad in high performance glass façades and overlooking the surrounding islands with panoramic views. The award-winning mixed-use tower is a commercial and residential centre and is located on the Corniche Road adjacent to the British Embassy.
With a nod to traditional Islamic geometry, the post modern skyscraper’s design incorporates dodecagons while still keeping the building contemporary in appearance. The design by architects Pelli Clarke Pelli uses local precedents to be environmentally sustainable and culturally sensitive. The top of the tower hosts a substantial sky garden, uses the temperature gradient and higher wind speed to reduce the need for cooling, a traditional practice in the Gulf region. To address the challenging desert weather conditions, the Landmark was conceived as a series of layered screens, which form a protective wrapper extending from the building’s conditioned envelope.
For Landmark Tower, the capable hands of an exceptional building envelope professional were necessary to ensure the challenging installation of the facades adhered to acceptable standards. Wintech was called to serve as a third-party monitor for the structure.
With offices in the Middle East, Wintech Ltd consultants are able to provide their specialist façade engineering consultancy services for high-profile projects in and around the UAE.
Landmark tower was completed in 2013.
