Illuminating the sky over Croydon is a residential building standing 45-storeys high, designed by award winning architects Rolfe Judd with high level Façade Engineering support from Wintech.
The tower’s envelope is the most particularly captivating element of this structure, made up of an assortment of brilliantly coloured glass panels. 22 soft shades of mauves and pinks make up the façades of this tower, intended by the architects to depict the image of a pixelated crocus flower. The wall-to-ceiling glazing offers outstanding views of the city’s skyline.
The scheme is situated at the gateway to the town which is hoping to gain the name of “London’s third city” in its regeneration; the Croydon Vision 2020. As a mixed use development, the project in Saffron Square will accommodate around 800 new apartments including a new public square, all expected to be complete by the end of 2016.
Developer Berkeley Homes appointed Wintech as the project façade engineers who were seen as a safe pair of hands assisting in the delivery of this major façade project, providing all the services required of new-build façade engineering consultancy – from concept through to completion. These services included the development of façade strategy, façade specifications, environmental performance evaluations, design monitoring and site surveys.
